If you have decided to move to Panama, congratulations for such a brilliant choice.  We give you the most cordial welcome.  Panama offers countless incentives for those of you wishing to invest, both in tourism and real estate, and also for those of you thinking of moving to Panama, especially if you are retired, because by just evidencing that you receive the sum of US$500 (+US$100 for each dependent) per month from a governmental or private institution, you qualify for all of these benefits:

- Importing into the country up to US$10,000 in personal belongings, tax free

- Importing a car every two years, tax free

- Plus the following discounts:

  • 50% off prices charged at cinemas, theaters, sporting events and all other public shows.
  • 25% off the value of individual food consumption at any restaurant.
  • 15% off the total bill for hospital and private health clinic services and 10% off the value of prescription medicine at drug stores.
  • 20% off consultation fees in general medicine and medical and surgical specialties; 15% off dental services, and 15% off optometry services.
  • 25% off monthly electricity bill and 25% off phone services.
  • Discounts on regular rates of hotels and resorts: 50% off from Monday through Thursday, 30% off on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
  • 15% off in fast food establishments of national and international franchises.
  • 20% off the price of all prostheses, as well as all health aid devices and accessories.


You don’t have to pay taxes over income generated abroad.  If you build or purchase a new home, you have 20 years exemption on real property tax.  Moreover, your investment is protected by law (of stability of investment, 1998), because for a period of 10 years it cannot be affected by changes in taxes, municipal levies or labor laws.
